Gunning - The Ljl Way
Gunning Basics
To help our amazing crew improve their skills i thought I'd make a tutorial on the first steps of becoming an Ultimate Gunner. This tutorial is for people who at least know how to fill a cannon and explains the idea behind Looping and shows how it is done.
Looping
Boards
The first part of looping is to make sure you find a good board. Do not try to attempt to loop with an un-loopable board. This will waste time and most definitely ruin your standing. When finding and board you should repeatedly start and abandon duty until a good board is found.
There are three types of boards;
Bad Board - where looping is not possible
Looping Board - where you can loop around at least two cannons easily
Perfect board - where you can loop round all four cannons easily
Examples of the Boards you should be looking for are as shown:

This is an example of a Perfect Board:

These boards can be used to loop round two cannons or more:

Directions
You may place 3 different "Directions" at once on a board. Looping round two cannons should take up two of those Directions which leaves one for directing the objects into the loop. One rule you should remember is to always Refresh your looping directions before putting another direction on the board (place the same arrow again). This makes sure your loop doesn't get messed up.
Your loop should look something like this:

And with peices included :

Filling
Once all the necessary objects are in the loop you should begin filling. Refresh the loop directions and now use the direction that was directing objects into the loop to now fill the cannons. Fill cannons one by one otherwise things may get confusing. When filling, simply turn the direction towards in the cannon for the correct corresponding object then once that object starts to go in quickly turn the direction the correct way to keep the flow of the loop going. Do this for all the objects in order to fill the cannon.
It should look something like:

Extra Tips
=> Try to fill the objects that are easiest to do. Do not try to fill ones that have incorrect adjacent objects unless you are filling a cannon ball.
=> Speeding the objects up helps increase rank
=> Do not abandon duty if a mistake occurs, wash it out and finish it.
Your Intentions
When gunning you need to make clear of you intentions with your gunning session and should act accordingly.
Rank Raising - If you are just looking to increase your rank or get practice, job with the navy. With the navy firstly find a good board, fill 2 cannons then abandon duty and repeat. Feel free to do 4 cannons if possible. This is the best way to increase your rank.
Sloop and Dhow Gunning - This one has more of a chance of lowering your standing. Keep finding looping boards and filling whenever possible during battle. Once a perfect board is found, remain on that board. Fill cannons when they are fired and pause the game whenever movement occurs (Stops the barrel from moving from the middle and getting in the way).
Other Ship Types Gunning - Follow in the same way as the Rank Raising method but be more generous with board decisions.
Hope this Basic Looping tutorial helped. Feel free to ask any questions.
